PresNet Development 2010

Development efforts for PresNet in 2010 are using the TDL co-cirectors as product owners with the TDL chief technology officer acting as their proxy. User stories have been selected to create a proof of concept system and create domain expertise among the TDL development staff. (See this article for descriptions of common Scrum terms.)

Sprints 1-3

  • Three three-week sprints beginning March 22, 2010 and concluding by TCDL 2010 (May 17)
  • Goal: Package and deliver TDL-managed assets to TACC
  • Software platform: iRODS
  • Primary partner: Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC)
    • renting 10 terabytes of storage (1 copy disk, 2 copies tape)

Sprint 4

Sprint 4 was a one-week re-factoring spring in which the TDL team reorganized the code base.

Sprint 5 (concluded June 11, 2010)

Completed user stories

The team committed to completion of the following two stories in sprint 5:

  • The "TDL federated ETD Collection" story: "As a TDL admin, I want to be able to preserve the TDL federated ETD collection."
  • The "Nominate a collection for preservation" story: "As a content collector, I want to nominate a collection for preservation."

Uncommitted backlog story:

The team finished its committed stories early and made substantial progress towards completion of a third story from the backlog:

  • The "cost of preservation" story: "As a preservationist, I want to know the effective cost of my collections."
